01 / Cleaning-in-place for dairy & food plants

Cleaning-in-place (CIP) circulates cleaning solutions through tanks, pipelines and process equipment without routine dismantling. Dairy plants need to remove milk fat, protein deposits and milkstone. Food and beverage lines need a cleaning programme matched to their product residues, equipment and water quality.

CIP cleaning chemicals selected for the soil

Formulated alkaline detergents help remove organic residues; acid CIP cleaners target mineral scale and milkstone. Enzyme-based CIP cleaners can be evaluated for suitable protein and fat deposits. Sanitisation, including peracetic acid where appropriate, follows effective cleaning. Select chemicals for water hardness, surface compatibility and the equipment manufacturer’s guidance, using a validated operating procedure.

Reduce CIP water, energy and chemical consumption

EcoCare’s CIP optimisation approach reviews detergent concentration, temperature, contact time, circulation flow and rinse endpoints together. Compare water use, chemical consumption, heating demand and cycle duration to identify avoidable waste. Trial changes on the actual circuit and verify results before routine adoption. Savings depend on the plant and its existing cleaning programme.

Verify hygiene performance before shortening cycles

Track cleaning results alongside operating costs. Use visual inspection where accessible, residue checks and appropriate microbiological verification against the plant’s hygiene criteria. ATP testing can support routine monitoring but does not replace microbiological validation. Document procedures, test results and corrective actions to support consistent food-processing hygiene.
