What is EcoCare EC 900 ?

EC 900 is a PDMS E900-based silicone antifoaming agent. The product is added by FSSAI as processing aid additive in food processing industries. Additives are external chemical substances used during the preparation of food products in order to extend their shelf life, improve their organoleptic characteristics, or facilitate industrial processing. 1. Why Frying Oils Foam – and Why It Matters

Foaming occurs during high-temperature frying when steam from food moisture, surface-active degradation products (free fatty acids and oxidized polymers), and food particulates stabilize air bubbles. Persistent foam leads to oil losses, uneven frying, increased maintenance, and product quality variations. Reducing foam ensures consistent fryer performance, stable oil life, and lower operating costs.

2. How Silicone Antifoams Work

Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), the active component, acts through: - Surface Spreading: Rapid distribution across the air–oil interface due to ultra-low surface tension. - Film Disruption: Weakens bubble lamellae, allowing bubbles to merge and collapse instantly. - Long-Term Stability: Optimized viscosity maintains efficiency at trace dosages without residue formation.

3. Safety & Global Compliance

Ecocare EC-900 complies with international food safety standards: - FSSAI (India): Classified as a food-grade processing aid under antifoaming agents. - FDA (21 CFR §173.340): Permitted up to 10 ppm in final food products. - EFSA (E900): Assigned an ADI of 17 mg/kg body weight/day, ensuring safe use. - Codex GSFA:Recognized as an approved food processing aid for defoaming applications.

4. Thermal & Sensory Performance

At 170–185 °C frying temperatures, EC-900 retains stability and prevents foam reformation during continuous frying cycles. The formulation minimizes oxidative breakdown, ensuring neutral taste and odor at regulated dosage levels.

5. Recommended Dosage & Application

  • Dosage: 2–10 ppm (0.0002–0.001% w/w) of oil.

  • Addition Point: Into make-up oil tank or circulation line (not directly onto product).

  • Method: Stir or recirculate for uniform dispersion.

  • Maintenance: Add micro-doses periodically for long-term foam control.
